D’Angelico EXL-1 Hollow Body, No Case, Demo Model
One of D’Angelico most popular models, the Excel (EXL) was the company’s flagship model in the 1950s. D’Angelico reissued and expanded the line to bring you the ELX-1 in a natural finish. The archtop hollow-body guitar has vintage gold-plated hardware that perfectly complement the instrument’s appointed details—from the stair step-style tailpiece to the classic headstock. The handmade guitar has an undeniable refined visual presence.
This EXL-1 has a lightweight laminated spruce top and a laminated flamed maple back. Hard maple sandwiches a walnut center strip in the neck, lending to the ebony fingerboard’s comfort. You’ll find mother-of-pearl block inlays across the fingerboard. EXL-1’s headstock is a throwback to the original vintage Excel design, including the signature gold pin at the crown. The dark floating rosewood bridge matches the stair step-style pickguard and fingerboard, providing a nice contrast to the guitar’s natural color. The floating humbucker pickups deliver a full register of rich, clear tones that never overwhelm. When you receive the EXL-1, you’ll find it set up and ready to play.
